Potassium nitrate is purified by multi-stage crystallization, which removes chloride and sodium and gives uniform, high-purity crystals that dissolve quickly and completely in water.
Uptake and movement in the plant
Nitrate is taken up by the roots and moves up the plant in the transpiration stream. Nitrate and potassium applied to the leaves are also absorbed through the leaf surface, and potassium moves freely within the plant.
Role in the plant
Nitrate also acts as a signal that supports growth, while potassium regulates stomatal opening and supports photosynthesis.
Rhizosphere pH effect
When plants take up nitrate, they release hydroxide or bicarbonate, which raises the pH slightly around the roots instead of acidifying the soil.
